The Faculty of Fine Arts and Music celebrates the success of alumni and staff at the 40th Annual Green Room Awards

The Faculty of Fine Arts and Music would like to extend our warmest congratulations to alumni and staff who were recognised at the 40th Annual Green Room Awards.

Acknowledging Victorian productions with excellent achievements in Cabaret, Contemporary & Experimental Performance, Dance, Independent Theatre, Music Theatre, Opera and Theatre Companies, The Green Room Awards, as noted by its president, Anton Berezin, aims to “celebrate the tremendous depth of theatrical talent this city has to offer.”

We would like to congratulate the following Green Room Award winners from the Faculty of Fine Arts and Music:

Sarah Austin (Bachelor of Creative Arts (Hons), 2001) and staff member in Theatre won the Arts in Sync Award (Work for Children and Young Families) for An Uncertain Time presented by Sarah Austin & Co as part of FUSE Darebin Festival.

Jana Zvedeniuk (Bachelor of Fine Arts (Acting), 2020) won the award for Outstanding Performance for Yentl presented by Kadimah Yiddish Theatre.

Eryn Jean Norvill (Bachelor of Fine Arts (Acting), 2006) was also recognised for the Outstanding Performance award for The Picture of Dorian Gray presented by Michael Cassel Group, A Sydney Theatre Company Production.

Marg Horwell (Bachelor of Creative Arts, 2001) was awarded for Outstanding Costume Design for The Picture of Dorian Gray presented by Michael Cassel Group, A Sydney Theatre Company Production.

Gary Watling (Master of Music (Performance Teaching), 2013) won the award for Outstanding Sound Design/ Composition for Heart is a Wasteland presented by ILBIJERRI Theatre Company and Arts Centre Melbourne.

Gary Abrahams (Master of Theatre Practice, 2009) and Elise Hearst (Bachelor of Creative Arts, 2004) received the award for Outstanding Writing for Yentl presented by Kadimah Yiddish Theatre.

Warwick Fyfe (Assoc Dip Opera, 1992) won the award for Outstanding Performance in a Supporting Role for Lohengrin presented by Opera Australia.

Brynna Lowen (Bachelor of Fine Arts (Production), 2016) received an award for Sets and Costumes Design for IPHIS presented by Lyric Opera and Theatre Works.

Luke George (Bachelor of Dance, 2001) won the award for Outstanding Work and Design/ Technical Achievement for Still Lives: Melbourne presented by National Gallery of Victoria as part of RISING Festival.

The Best Sound Design and Composition Award went to Elissa Goodrich (Bachelor of Music Performance, 1997) for Gene Tree: Listen. Now. Again presented by St. Martins in association with Royal Botanic Gardens Victoria.

Nathan Burmeister (Master of Design (Live Performance), 2017) was recognised for the Best Set and Costume Award for Paradise Lost presented by Bloomshed in association with Darebin Arts Speakeasy.

The award for Best Choreography went to Sandra Parker (Lecturer in Dance) for Yield to Resistance presented by Temperance Hall and Dancehouse.

Sarah Aiken (Bachelor of Dance, 2009) was awarded for Best Visual Design for Make Your Life Count presented by Arts House and Sarah Aiken and Collaborators.

Jake Preval (Master of Fine Arts (Visual Art), 2021) won the Best Visual Design Award for SICK presented by Phillip Adams, Ryan New, Balletlab and Midsumma Festival.

Lilian Steiner (Bachelor of Dance, 2010) received the Best Performer Award for Siren Dance presented by Dancehouse.

Samantha Andrew (Bachelor of Fine Arts (Contemporary Music), 2017) and Mel O’Brien (Bachelor of Music, 2020) won the award for Best Original Songs for Cabaret for Shit-Wrecked! presented by Samantha Andrew and Mel O’Brien as part of Melbourne International Comedy Festival.
