Technical Resources COVID-19 update and general information 9/7/2020

As you are well aware we are all experiencing and unprecedented event with the recent outbreak of the COVID-19 virus. In response the University is complying with Government recommendations on the virus’ containment and ensuring the general health and safety for students and staff during this time.

Unfortunately this has meant making significant changes to the way we do things. For artists working within our Faculty it basically means no longer having ease of access to our regular tools and resources etc. So what are we doing exactly? Hopefully the information on this page will clear things up for you.

EQUIPMENT LOANS - TEMPORARY COVID-19 ARRANGEMENTS

UNFORTUNATELY DUE TO THE STAGE 4 COVID-19 RESTRICTIONS ALL EQUIPMENT LOANS AND STOREROOMS HAVE BEEN SUSPENDED/CLOSED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE.

For students working with Photography

If you are interested in continuing working with film, and film processing there are a number of external labs that will be open until directed otherwise by the Government. For processing film, scanning negatives, and for photographic chemistry and other related goods you can visit:

They may not be physically present in the workshops but they can still assist you to make the most of whatever you have access to whilst working at home.

How to make a reservation with the Cheqroom mobile app

2. Once equipment is reserved a collection time MUST be booked via:

Collection & return times are organised in 10 minute intervals to assist with adhering to social distancing guidelines.

There will be two separate collection locations inside the FTV Equipment Storeroom:

Equipment collection and Return times:

Equipment COLLECTION - Thursday afternoons 1:30 - 4:30 pm
Equipment RETURN - Monday morning 9:30 am - 12:30 pm

Once returned all equipment will remain in quarantine for 72 hours between Monday and Thursday and will not be available for loan outside of these times.

Loan period:

STRICTLY THURSDAY to MONDAY. Due to the limited amount of equipment long-term loans cannot be accommodated.

Equipment collection and return location:

All equipment collections and returns will take place in the FTV Equipment Storeroom (Rear of Building 861, Entry from Grant Street driveway between Lionel’s cafe and B861). OTHER STOREROOM LOCATIONS WILL NOT BE OPEN OR ACCESSIBLE.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION:

  • All reservations must be made via the CHEQROOM app. No phone or email bookings will be processed.
  • Only the equipment listed in the CHEQROOM app is available for loan, other specific requests cannot be accommodated at this time.
  • All collections and returns MUST be arranged via:

Digital Printing will be available from Wednesday 4th November 2020. Print runs will take place on Mondays, Wednesdays & Thursdays until Friday 27th November 2020.

TO ACCESS DIGITAL PRINTING:

Upload your files to Dropbox (links below) and complete payment by 9am for your prints to be completed by the end of the day - MONDAY, WEDNESDAY and THURSDAY only. Files submitted after 9am will be printed in the following run. Please note that on-the-spot prints and in-person consultations are not possible. If you have questions regarding printing please arrange a Zoom meeting with Andrew McLaughlin.

Also please keep in mind that digital printing access may change prior to 17/12/2020 depending on any alterations to the Victorian Government's COVID-19 restrictions.

PAYMENT

Payment is required BEFORE printing and is made via the Materials Shop (eCart). Click on the options listed in the "Paying for digital printing" section below to access the appropriate payment page.

PRINT PICKUP

You will receive an email notification with instructions once your print job has been completed. The Digital Print Studio is located here:

Print files MUST BE SAVED AT THE CORRECT SIZE AND INCLUDE ANY REQUIRED BORDER. PLEASE ALSO INCLUDE YOUR NAME AND THE PRINT SIZE IN THE FILE NAME (e.g. YourFullName_A3-1.tif). Print files can be either copied directly onto the Print Server (located on the desktop of all studio computers) or uploaded to the Digital Hub Dropbox.

BASIC FILE SETUP:

Image resolution between 150ppi (minimum) - 600ppi (maximum).
- Avoid resampling your file if possible.
It is NOT required you resize your file up to 300ppi.
16 bit RGB (do not convert your file to CMYK)
FLATTENED .tiff OR .jpeg (No .psd files please)
PDF files are supported for plan prints
Please include your NAME and the SIZE REQUIRED in the file name (e.g. YourFullName_A3-1.tif).

ALL FILES WILL BE PRINTED AS IS. IF YOU REQUIRE A SPECIFIC BORDER IT MUST BE INCLUDED ON THE FILE. IF NO BORDER IS PRESENT THE IMAGE WILL BE PRINTED "FIT TO PAGE." THIS MEANS YOUR IMAGE WILL BE RESIZED TO FIT EDGE-TO-EDGE ON EITHER THE LENGTH OR WIDTH OF THE PAPER SIZE REQUESTED.

3D PRINTING

3D printing is available to all Fine Arts and Music students and can be arranged by appointment. A consultation with Andrew is recommended to look over your file before printing.

FILM SCANNING

High Dynamic Range (HDR) scans from an Imacon Flextight Film Scanner. Supported film formats include: 35mm, 120 (medium format) and 4x5 (large format). Booking is required in order to ensure that the scanner is made available. The film scanner is located in the Digital Print Studio (Room G11 Library Building).
