Congratulations to all students who have accepted their offer to study at the Faculty of Fine Arts and Music at the University of Melbourne! We look forward to welcoming you to our community and hope to see you at Orientation.

Follow the below steps to begin your journey at Fine Arts and Music

Use the Handbook to identify the subjects you will take to meet your course requirements and academic goals, then you need to enrol into your subjects via your Study Plan. Enrolling in a subject means that you are officially admitted to study that subject. You can find further information on enrolling here.

Once you have enrolled in your subjects, you can view your timetable in ASIMUT – the Fine Arts and Music timetable and room booking system. Watch the videos about how to use ASIMUT, see the FAQs, and read the rules and regulations here.

Faculty Welcome Lunch

Date: Wednesday 24 July, 12 to 2pm
Cohort: All Students
Description: The Welcome Lunch will kick-start your journey at the University of Melbourne. Whether you are starting a Diploma, Bachelor or Master's degree, this day will be your official welcome to the Faculty and a chance to get to know your fellow students over a free lunch. Lunch is followed by an afternoon of tours and workshops designed to connect you in with services at Southbank, all afternoon events are listed below.

Academic Skills: Get Started in Fine Arts and Music

Date: Wednesday 24 July, 2 to 3pm
Cohort: Available for all commencing Fine Arts and Music students
Description: Students studying Fine Arts and Music are encouraged to come along to this academic skills workshop.
Location: Founders Gallery, Room 102, Elisabeth Murdoch Building (Building 860), Southbank Campus


Wellbeing Workshop

Date: Wednesday 24 July, 3 to 4pm
Cohort: Available for all commencing Fine Arts and Music students
Description:Come along to the Wellbeing Workshop and learn some strategies for managing stress and ensure that you are ready to study.

Southbank Library Workshop Tour

Date: Wednesday 24 July, 3 to 4pm
Cohort: Available for all commencing Fine Arts and Music students
Description: Join the library orientation workshop and tour, coordinated by librarian Georgina Binns, and find out about teaching and learning services, research services, the library catalogue, and what makes the Southbank Library so special.

Crafternoon

Date: Wednesday 24 July, 4 to 5pm
Cohort: Available for all commencing Fine Arts and Music students
Description: Come along and enjoy a friendly Crafternoon and some muffins with your fellow students and professional staff.

Master of Music (Performance Teaching) Orientation

Date: Wednesday 24 July, 1:30 to 2pm
Cohort: All Masters of Music Performance Teaching students
Description: Meet with the course coordinator and get to know your fellow students

Master of Producing Orientation and Information Day

Date: Friday 26 July
Cohort: Master of Producing students
Description: Welcome to the Master of Producing! This Orientation day will introduce you to the course and the Campus, including tours of the facilities, studio inductions, student photos, safety training and more!

8:50 to 9 am Overview of Masters of Producing (Cinema 2)
9 to 10 am VCA FTV compliance, RAM's and producing short films (Cinema 2)
10 to 10:45 am Library session (Library at the Hub)
10:45 to 11 am Coffee break
11 to 12 pm Campus Tour (Meet in the Foyer in FTV)
12 to 12:30 pm Student photos (FTV Building-Audio suite)
12:30 to 1 pm Ladder and studio induction (Studio 1/Studio 2)
1 to 2 pm Lunch
2 to 2:45 pm Fire Warden online training (Library Lab)
2:45 to 3:30 pm Safer Communities (Library Lab)
3:30 to 4 pm Graduate Student Association talk (Library Lab)

Bachelor of Music and Diploma of Music Orientation Session

Date: Friday 26 July, 11am to 12:30pm
Cohort: Bachelor of Music (PCME stream) and Diploma of Music Students
Description: This compulsory information session, delivered by key academics from the Conservatorium of Music, will provide you with important information about the Bachelor of Music and Diploma of Music, with a particular focus on the Performance, Composition, Musicology, and Ethnomusicology (PCME) stream. This will be followed by Practical and Ensemble Information.

Bachelor of Music (Honours) and Graduate Diploma of Music Orientation Session

Date: Friday 26 July, 2:30 to 3:30pm
Cohort: Bachelor of Music (Honours) and Graduate Diploma of Music Students
Description: This compulsory information session, delivered by the course coordinator, Associate Professor Melanie Plesch, will provide you with important information about the Bachelor of Music (Honours) and Diploma of Music. The session will be held in room 880-801 (Teaching Studio) Ian Potter Southbank Centre, 43 Sturt Street, Southbank

Attend University-wide events at Parkville Campus to meet more people, develop your study skills, and learn more about student services and careers help. The University of Melbourne Student Union (UMSU) runs clubs and societies day on Thursday 26th July if you are interested in seeing all the student run clubs you can join.

Stop 1 is the face of student services online, on the phone, and in person. Services include administration, course planning, enrolment assistance, skills development and support services. Stop 1 (Southbank) is located in the Hub building and is open from 9am-5pm Monday to Friday.

You have access to all University libraries, including our Faculty's Southbank Library which brings together the Louise Hanson-Dyer Collection and the Lenton Parr Visual and Performing Arts Collection.

Learn about using the library, booking rooms and computers, and borrowing materials.

The Hub building is also home to a range of student services available to Southbank students, including:

Academic Skills - a dedicated University department responsible for providing students with various forms of assistance to enable them to realise their full academic potential and achieve excellence. They offer free skills workshops and individual appointments.

Careers and Employability – careers advisors can help you write a resume and job application, for part-time student jobs and your future career.

Counselling and Psychological Services - Finding things a little rough? Free, confidential counseling is available to students through Counselling and Psychological Services.

Creative Arts Therapies – Use creative methods to address anxiety, stress or social fears.
