Southbank campus security

Southbank Campus Security can be contacted by phone on +61 3 9035 9311. If you are on campus after 11pm at night and need assistance, you should contact the University Security Service on +61 3 8344 6666.

Security phones are located around campus. Please make sure you identify your closest security phone during Orientation. Security phones can be used to call internal campus numbers, including Southbank Campus Security by dialing 59311 and University Security Service on 46666. To dial emergency services on the security phones, you will need to dial an extra 0, as it is an external line.

Therefore, to dial for Police, Fire or Ambulance from a campus security phone, you would dial 0 000.

Building access

Building access is by using your student ID card as a swipe card. Card access will be activated once you are enrolled. The Research Office will advise you by email when your access is activated. You should carry your student ID card whenever you are on campus. After enrolment, your student ID card will have access added to it. This can take a week and your access will enable you to enter the faculty graduate facilities at both campuses and to the building(s) relevant to your course, such as the Art studios for Visual Art students.

Security escort service

If you ever feel unsafe getting around campus, security officers are available to escort you to your car, public transport, taxi pick-up points, colleges or other locations on or in the near vicinity of the Southbank or Parkville campus. This free 24-hour service is available to all students and staff from anywhere on campus. If you intend to work late at night and know you will require assistance, try to book in advance to avoid delays. If your escort is delayed for any reason, the Security Office will contact you.

To request a security escort, call +61 8344 4674 or 1800 246 066 (free call).
