Kraken exhibits process and material outcomes from Chris Bond’s PhD research into the role of dissociation in the visual arts, in which he charts the potential of altercharacters to steer artistic practice into frequently uncomfortable and uncanny territory. The central figure in the work is the invented Norwegian performance artist Kraken, who Bond embodies in order to generate textual narrative, photographic/video documentation, and source material for his own painting practice. Together, Bond and Kraken create scenarios in which each is compelled to think, feel and act from within the mind and body of the other.

This exhibition comprises part of the VCA School of Art PhD Program.
