Dr. Kim Dunphy
Kim Dunphy (BA, Grad Dip Movement Dance, M.Ed, PhD; DTAA (Prof. DMT) is Lecturer in Dance Movement Therapy and is leading the development of the curriculum in dance movement therapy for CAMTRU’s new Masters program. Her research interests include assessment and evaluation of dance movement therapy, especially use of technological tools to assist. She and collegaue Tessa Hens were recently acknowledged with the American Dance Therapy Association’s Research Award 2019 for their article on Outcome-Focused Dance Movement Therapy Assessment Enhanced by iPad App MARA. Kim also has long term research and practice interests in understanding how dance movement therapists can work effectively with people who are different from themselves, including people who have different cultural backgrounds, languages and ability level from those who offer them therapy. Kim is the President of the Dance Movement Therapy Association of Australasia; and past-Chair of the Research Committee of the Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia; and Inaugural Convenor of the World Alliance for Dance Movement Therapy. Her recent publications include chapters in major volumes Dance and the Quality of Life (Springer), and Oxford Handbooks of Community Music, and Dance and Wellbeing (OUP). She is keen to supervise students with interests in dance movement therapy, assessment and evaluation.
