Note from the Director
The collection of folktales that make up what we know today as the Arabian Nights has always been more than just stories. They are oral traditions passed down through generations - whispered at bedtimes, shared over meals - travelling the Silk Road and beyond.
But these are not books on a shelf. They are living testaments of how people have dealt with forces beyond their control: finding solace in tragedy, celebration in hope, and reconciling the goodness and evils that sit within the hearts of humans.
Just as these stories have been shaped by the people who spoke them, I am so grateful and humbled to share with you our tale, formed from the minds of such bold and daring performers, designers, and creators. None of this would exist without them, and my heart sings with the knowledge that the future of Australian Theatre will be led by their voices.
