Alternatively, if you are completing a psychology subject outside the provided list, we generally advise that any university’s year 1 psychology program is appropriate to meet this requirement. However, should you choose to satisfy this prerequisite, with a potentially equivalent subject outside the pre-approved list, we suggest you search for equivalent units and then contact us for approval with the following information:
- Name of the qualification
- Name and code of subjects
- The institution at which the subjects were completed
- Links or attachments for the official subject outline and/or syllabus (Please see the University of Melbourne Handbook for an idea of what kind of information we require)
Where a course offers psychology 1 and 2, generally completing one of the two subjects satisfies the entry requirement (UNE is an exception – both are required). It is preferred to do psychology 1; however, psychology 2 is acceptable and may be preferable for students who need to consider the timing of the course to meet application deadlines. Students who have the time should consider both 1 and 2 as they are complementary and provide a thorough grounding in psychology. Two MOOC courses are currently accepted (Please ensure you opt for a transcript to prove completion of the course in time to meet the due dates).

Please search the AMTA website “Find a RMT” function to contact music therapists in your local area.
The RMT who hosts your observation session needs to fill out a report form for your visit. They can use the link provided here.
Please note: Applicants do not submit the form, this must be done by the RMT hosting the observation.
- The RMTs on the list provided have volunteered to offer a short observational visit, typically of around 1 hour. It is a good idea to search these facilities on-line and read about the services they offer before you start contacting the RMTs.
- Please be patient and respectful in your communications and understand that the times for observation may be extremely limited due to the sensitive nature of the work. The earlier you can organise an observation visit the better – avoid leaving it to just before your audition.
- In addition to the RMTs listed below, you may also contact your state branch of the Australian Music Therapy Association (AMTA) for advice on RMTs that may be able to offer observation visits. You will find contacts for your state here.
- If you are unable to observe a music therapist due to travel restrictions or accessibility challenges, you can view online case studies via NORO Music Therapy Australia.
