TRUMPET MEGA DAY 2024

We're inviting trumpeters of all ages, abilities and walks of life to come experience a day at the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music!

The Mega Day will commence on Saturday 24 August, featuring the Trumpet Mega Day Showcase Concert, featuring staff and students of the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music, before partaking in a full day of Trumpet festivities on Sunday 25 August.

Participants will engage in warm-ups, masterclasses and the mass trumpet ensemble, meet with like-minded musicians and perform some incredible music together. The mega day will feature a recital by Mega Day Artist Ashley Hall-Tighe (US) Click below to find out more!

Group Warm Up
Bring your instrument and join in the morning warm up session with Joel Brennan as a great kick start to your festival day

Masterclasses with MCM Trumpet Staff (Joel Brennan and Rosie Turner)
Attendees and participants will have the unique opportunity to watch and work with the Conservatorium Trumpet teaching staff in a masterclass setting. Each masterclass will specialize in secondary or tertiary levels and applications to perform are open to secondary and tertiary students, all are invited to attend. This will be a great opportunity for those about to enter their tertiary music studies, music students in VCE, or those considering the university for their future music studies.

Participants will be able to perform an unaccompanied piece of music they have chosen in front of a group, and work with the Masterclass artist on different aspects of the piece. For those wishing to participate in a masterclass, you will be able to express your interest through the ticket booking form, and you will be notified of the outcome on Friday 11 August. All other attendees will be welcome to attend and observe the masterclasses.

Presentation: Basics of Respiratory Mechanics for Trumpeters by Nathaniel Tighe
Dr. Nathaniel Tighe, MD MM is an anesthesiologist, trumpeter, choral singer, arranger and composer currently based in Boston, MA. In this presentation, Nathaniel will explore the basics of respiratory mechanics for trumpeters, and how this can be applied to everyday practice.

Recital: Ashley Hall-Tighe
Ashley Hall-Tighe will present a recital.

Masterclass with Ashley Hall-Tighe
Trumpet students from the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music will work with Ashley Hall on their chosen pieces in front of an audience. This masterclass will be a fantastic opportunity to learn from a unique artist and passionate educator.

Mass Trumpet Ensemble
All attendees are invited to come together to rehearse and perform works with the Mass Trumpet Ensemble.  Sheet music will be provided prior to the event. Come and experience the magic of playing together!

Event Information

Observer/Teacher passes are available to those who wish to attend the day without participating in the rehearsals and concert performance.

Parent/Guardian passes are available for those who wish to attend the day alongside a participant 17 years and younger.

Attendees aged 14 and under are required to have a parent/guardian or teacher attend with them.

Teacher Professional Development Certificates can be made available for teacher who would like them. Please indicate your interest through the ticket booking system.
