Creating an award

Major awards give students an invaluable opportunity to study with us. We encourage our students to be brave, because we believe artistic minds effect change.

Thanks to generous donors, the Faculty of Fine Arts and Music supports some of Australia’s brightest creative minds from all parts of the community. Financial pressure for these students can be considerable and that is why we invite you to make a contribution to support the growth of our artistic future.

Become part of the community

Our valued donors receive invitations to special events, student performances and exhibitions throughout the year, gaining a unique insight into student progress. Annual donations of $1,000 or above offer donors membership to the University of Melbourne’s Chancellor’s Circle.

What you need to know about making a gift

Before making any gift to the University, a donor should seek independent taxation advice regarding the proposed gift. This should include whether the gift, or the value of the gift, will be tax-deductible. In most cases gifts are fully tax deductible and 100% of any donation will be allocated directly and in full to its stated purpose.

The Australian Taxation Office has endorsed the University as a deductible gift recipient ('DGR') under Subdivision 30-BA of the Income Tax Assessment Act 1997 (Commonwealth), as a public university (see item 2.1.1 in subdivision 30-B, and item 1 of the table in section 30–15), with effect from 1 July 2000.
