Music Theatre Audition Preparation Workshop 2019
Are you planning to audition for a music theatre course at the VCA or elsewhere? This essential workshop is for you.
Led by the VCA’s Head of Music Theatre, Tyran Parke, this workshop will cover all elements of the music theatre audition. Sessions on choosing and preparing your songs and monologues (both Shakespeare and contemporary) will fill your kit bag with essential knowledge and practical exercises and the day will end with a full dance call that follows the format of a dance audition.
There will be opportunities throughout the session for explanation of technical terms and points of focus. Our friendly graduates will give you the benefit of their experience and knowledge in helping you prepare mentally for combatting the stress of auditions, so you can best enjoy the experience and show your true potential. You will leave the day with a clear understanding of what is required and how to implement a sound process of preparation in all three areas.
The knowledge you will gain will be transferrable to auditions for all undergraduate music theatre courses.
Your facilitator Tyran Parke is an award-winning singer, actor, director and recording artist who stepped into the role of Head of VCA Music Theatre in January 2019. Tyran has over 20 years of acting experience and has performed lead roles in The Last Five Years, Anything Goes, Sweeney Todd, Evita, Oliver, the Tempest, Twelfth Night, Much Ado About Nothing, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Mack and Mabel, Tick Tick Boom!, and Angels in America. In addition to teaching music theatre at the VCA, he has directed graduating shows at NIDA and WAAPA.
Please bring something to take notes on and clothes suitable for a jazz dance class: jazz shoes (or bare feet) and clothes that will stretch and move with you. No tap shoes necessary.
