The Creativity and Wellbeing Research Initiative (CAWRI)

The Creativity and Wellbeing Research Initiative (CAWRI) investigates how creativity and wellbeing intersect through a range of research projects conducted primarily through the Faculty of Fine Arts and Music, with partnerships across the university and overseas. It continues the research trajectory of a Hallmark Research Initiative that funded interdisciplinary research projects across the university between 2019 and 2023. CAWRI’s ongoing aim is to develop new frameworks and methods to better understand the link between creativity and wellbeing. Included among various investigations, are projects exploring how creative activities can:

  • promote and facilitate wellbeing for performing artists;
  • help survivors of sexual trauma move towards post-traumatic growth engaging with arts;
  • support migrant communities navigate new social challenges using arts;
  • help combat reductive stereotypes of women's ageing as a time of decline and loss engaging with creative arts practices;
  • and support recovery, resilience and preparedness for unexpected climate events such a bushfires and flash floods.
