Tinaye Nyathi, Master of Film and Television (Narrative)

Tinaye Nyathi (he/him) is an emerging Afro-Black, trans filmmaker based in Naarm/Melbourne. He is a current Masters of Film and Television student at the Victorian College of the Arts and a Footscray Community Arts Behind The Screens participant. He makes mixed narrative and experimental films that explore and interrogate the inner lives of Black, trans people, understanding the need to de-centre cisgender voyeurism and fascination and re-centre personal agency in trans narratives. He likes working with a diverse range of different genre spaces including coming-of-age and magical realism, but always firmly grounded in character-driven dramatic circumstances.
