The Wilin Centre and Wilin Garden
The Wilin Centre for Indigenous Arts and Cultural Development is located on the sovereign lands of the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung and Bunurong Boon Wurrung Peoples of the Eastern Kulin.
The Wilin Centre for Indigenous Arts and Cultural Development connects Indigenous artists with a pathway to their future in visual and performing arts, design, film and television, and production.
Born out of student and community advocacy and allyship, the Wilin Centre fosters innovation in the research, development, advocacy and presentation of Indigenous arts and cultural practice, and provides a culturally safe space for Indigenous students and staff at the heart of our Southbank campus.
Our spaces
The Wilin Centre
A blend of historic and contemporary architecture , the building centres around the student lounge – a warm, inviting, student-focused space for meeting and gathering.
The lounge is equipped with a kitchenette, a student pantry, and bathroom and shower facilities. Students use the space for group study sessions, or just to connect and share a meal. Students also have access to technological resources, printing, and tutoring in this space.
Throughout the year, the Wilin Centre also hosts student lunches to create connection within our Indigenous student community. Students are at the heart of everything that happens here.
Wilin Garden
The Wilin Garden is a significant site at the centre of the Southbank campus that ignites strength in our community of First Nations artists, students and staff.
An open, relaxing space, the Wilin Garden is where the Faculty’s smoking ceremonies take place to welcome new students and staff. It is also used as a site for teaching and embedding Indigenous knowledges and perspectives.
The Wilin Garden embodies the story of the Wilin Centre. It’s a place for all Fine Arts and Music students to rest, relax, learn and connect.
