A MYRIAD of sounds

One of the most thrilling aspects of being a percussionist is the vast range of instruments that can be used in performance. The sound-making possibilities are endless. Join the MCM Percussion Department under the direction of Brent Miller as they present A Myriad of Sounds. From the grandeur of 12 timpani roaring through the concert hall to the sounds of two percussionists making music from a collection of spoons; to the more familiar tuneful keyboard percussion instruments juxtaposed with a collection of peculiar sounds made with household objects.

This concert will feature the Australian premiere of a work by Juri Seo, a likely Australian premiere of a little-known piece by Sofia Gubaidulina, as well as a composition from our very own Bridget Bourne (honours year percussionist).

The concert's title honours Barry Quinn, former Head of Percussion (1973-2000), who established the percussion course in 1974. His generous and passionate nature has inspired generations of Australia's leading percussionists. Myriad Percussion, his former business, for decades supported many groups and individuals.
