Derrick Duan, Bachelor of Fine Arts (Animation)

Derrick Duan (he/they) is a multi award-winning Asian filmmaker based in Naarm. With a special interest in stop-motion animation, Derrick's works centre around the physicality of materials and objects, and their qualities in preserving and evoking memories. With the support of Harry Hains Scholarship, his latest animated short is hand-constructed with woollen felt, and explores the theme of vulnerability, the stigma of masculinity, and grief. Derrick's previous works have both screened locally, at St Kilda Film Festival, Mornington Peninsula Film Festival and alike, and travelled globally to the USA, Spain and Denmark.
