L'incoronazione di Poppea (Coronation of Poppea)

Master of Music in Opera Performance students along with staff and students of the Early Music Studio, Melbourne Conservatorium of Music present L'incoronazione di Poppea. Claudio Monteverdi’s final opera, with a libretto by Giovanni Francesco Busenello, the work was premiered in Venice in 1643 and became the first opera to describe historical events and people. It recounts how Poppea, mistress of the Roman emperor Nero, becomes crowned empress. This passionate tale of intrigue and power was presented with Donald Nicolson offering musical direction, stylistic vocal coaching by David Greco and stage direction by Jane Davidson.
