Meet Richard Roberts, Head of Design at the Victorian College of the Arts
Richard Roberts is an Australian freelance theatre designer and design teacher, based in Melbourne. His design experience includes designs for drama, dance, film, television and opera. Since his first professional engagement in 1977 as a resident designer at the State Theatre Company of South Australia, he has worked for all the major performing arts companies in Australia as well as working extensively internationally. He is now the Head of Design and Associate Professor at the Victorian College of the Arts. Here, he tells us what is currently exciting him in his field.

Meet John Meade, Head of the Graduate Certificate of Visual Art at the University of Melbourne
"We teach students how to think, how to look at art, and how to make art." Artist and Lecturer in Painting Dr John Meade has been described as having "an omnivorous eye". He uses his extensive creative practice and expertise to steer the Graduate Certificate in Visual Art at the Faculty of Fine Arts and Music, as course coordinator.

Meet Steph Kehoe, Course Coordinator of the BFA (Theatre) at the University of Melbourne
Steph Kehoe has worked as a teacher, director and performer in Australia, Europe, the Americas and Asia. She trained under Jacques Lecoq at Ecole International de Théâtre Jacques Lecoq and completed her teacher training in the Lecoq pedagogy under Thomas Prattki at the London International School of Performing Arts. The William Tell Overture – performed by the University of Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, and VCA dancers, at home
Apples were the order of the day for University of Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, and a select number of Bachelor of Fine Arts (Dance) students. After the great success of the University of Melbourne Conservatorium student rendition of Bolero, recorded remotely with 104 talented orchestral musicians, Associate Professor in Music and Head of Orchestral Studies Richard Davis decided to raise the bar with a new, ambitious recording-in-isolation project, the William Tell Overture.

Playwriting Australia’s (PWA) Dear Australia offers bite-sized monologues that give voice to the hopes and fears of Australians facing the persistent threat of COVID-19. The Victorian College of the Arts was delighted to be represented as part of the Dear Australia line-up through a number of current and former staff, and alumni including Morgan Rose, James Majoos, Tariro Mavondo, Carly Sheppard, Richard Frankland, Kevin Hofbauer, Diane Stubbings, Eric Gardiner and Ross Mueller.

Lockdown What You Will – Shakespeare Online
Bachelor of Fine Arts (Acting) students had already started rehearsing for their annual Shakespeare showcases when COVID-19 took us into a virtual campus. Not to be perturbed, directors Sarah Cathcart and Petra Kalive made the decision to press on with rehearsals via Zoom.
